Facebook is as dangerous as letting an 11-year-old go to a nightclub, says head of the NSPCC
‘Allowing children to have Facebook accounts is as dangerous as letting them go to a nightclub when they are just 11, the head of the NSPCC has said.
Peter Wanless, chief executive of the children’s charity, who has a 15 year-old son, said the online world had created ‘a new playground for predators’ who sought to take advantage of vulnerable young children.
Mr Wanless said: ‘There are risks that children and teens face on social media sites that are akin to letting them go into a nightclub.
‘That is why we think it is critically important that serious attention is now paid to this issue.’ His warning comes as the charity calls to the government to take urgent action.’
