‘A Teesside headteacher has taken a holiday during term time despite his school warning parents they could be fined for doing the same thing.
A parent, whose child attends St. Patrick’s RC Primary School, in Thornaby, was told she could face a fine if she took them away on holiday during school as it would be an ‘unauthorised’ absence.
Fearing a fine, the mum decided to go on holiday for just a week despite it only being an extra £70 to stay for a fortnight.
However, on their return from the short trip recently, the mother was stunned to find headmaster Mark Ryan had put his school duties on hold and was away on a break to attend a wedding.’
