AI Captain! Norway to Unveil World’s First Crewless Electric Cargo Ship

‘The world is mad about drones and robots, and Norway is at the forefront, building autonomous cargo vessels, which will also be completely zero-emission due to their electric motors.
The Yara Birkeland is the name of a new robotic container ship currently being built in Norway in a joint project by two companies. The short-range all-electric cargo vessel is scheduled to being operations in 2018. At first, an old-fashioned crew will still be present on the ship, but the idea is to operate largely autonomously by 2020 (given regulatory clearance). This would eliminate up to 40,000 trips by polluting diesel trucks per year.’
