‘Theresa May’s local Tory council in wealthy Maidenhead has been accused of ‘social cleansing’ by pushing poorer people to neighbouring Slough in a furious housing row.
The dispute erupted this week after Labour chiefs in Slough accused Conservative run Windsor and Maidenhead council of refusing to build cheap homes, forcing Slough to do it for them.
Labour councillors in Slough accused Windsor and Maidenhead of ‘exporting poor people’.
The clash is embarrassing for Prime Minister and Maidenhead MP Mrs May, who has pledged to stop ‘Nimbys’ (not in my back yard) in affluent areas from blocking ‘affordable homes’. Although only seven miles apart, Maidenhead and Slough are strikingly different.’
