Concerned About School Shootings?
There’s an article floating around by a self-described millennial army veteran who is now a pacifist. It has the F-word in the title because we now live in Idiocracy and monosyllabic grunting is considered profound public discourse.
The gist of this article is that the constitution is vague and since kids are being killed in school shootings we need to get rid of certain kinds of guns – with the exception of the government – they can have whatever weapons they want. The author claims that gun owners’ only argument for legalized weapons is “F-you, I like my guns.”
There are very serious flaws with this article, but I can refute it by simply asking the author and anyone else who agrees with him to put your money where your mouth is and get rid of your automobile.
Here are the statistics of automobile crash fatalities in the US (not merely injuries, but actual deaths) since 2010:
2010 – 32,999
2011 – 32,479
2012 – 33,782
2013 – 32,893
2014 – 32,744
2015 – 35,485
2016 – 37,461
Children have thousands of times more odds of dying in a car wreck than a school shooting – which though being horrific and appalling, are rare.
And yet how many advocates of banning weapons are willing to turn the keys of their Assault Vehicles in to the local sheriff’s office. Why? Well, “F-you, I like my car.”
Your car is a luxury. They have existed only for a little more than a century – but look at the carnage! Where are the gun-control folks arguing that “if just one life is saved, it would be worth it”?
Here is another statistic that is also forgotten: the death toll of disarmament: 100,000,000 deaths of disarmed people in a century of tyrannical governments that indeed banned “assault rifles” and other guns, many under the pretense of safety.
What if the Jews of Germany and Poland and Czechoslovakia had been armed with “assault rifles”?
This is why the second amendment exists. This is why our founders didn’t disarm the citizens and arm the government. This is why millennials need to study more history and play less video games and engage in less mindless rutting.
Prior to the leftist cultural ‘liberation’ movements of the 1960s, school shootings were virtually nonexistent. They had a form of gun control then that we lack now: respect for life, respect for property, religious faith, rules about right and wrong, and law and order.
Today we have Idiocracy, extreme video games, a culture of nihilism, a lack of religious faith – basically Leftist Nirvana. And we have a generation of emasculated men, clueless young people, depression and psychotropic drugs, thug music that glorifies sexual assault and gunplay – and we also have school shootings.
My friends on the Left refuse to come to terms with the truth: these school shootings are their legacy. But they won’t change the culture that spawned it. Why? Because their attitude is “F-you, I like my nihilism.”
