Open Letter to Michigan Voters from Bill Roberts

Bill Roberts is a LaRouchePAC Policy Committee Member and Former Candidate for U.S. House of Representatives in Michigan’s 11th District

Dear Citizen,

The November 6th midterm election is the most important election of any of our lifetimes. Whether we continue to move forward out of the 16 years of failed policies of the George W. Bush and Barack Obama presidencies, or are dragged back into perpetual war and economic destruction, depends in large part on how you, the American citizen, act in the weeks ahead.

As a former candidate for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Congress in Michigan’s 11th district, representing the American System concepts of Alexander Hamilton, Abraham Lincoln, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon LaRouche, I campaigned not as a political partisan but as an advocate of “Principle Above Party.” Let’s face it: the American people have been abandoned by both parties. Although I sought the Democratic nomination, I loudly and publicly called for the impeachment of President Barack Obama, for crimes against the Constitution of the United States and the American people. In 2012, I received 41% of the votes in the Democratic primary. I gained the support of thousands of blue-collar workers who couldn’t see the economic recovery which Barack Obama said was occurring right before their eyes.

In November 2016, the American people elected Donald Trump, who rejected the decades of regime change wars, national security failures, and multilateral free trade deals. Those regime change wars cost trillions of dollars and millions of lives. As President Trump recently said, “How could we have been so stupid?” and recently referred to our invasion of Iraq as America’s worst mistake. Ever since November of 2016, the Democrats and the War Party have attempted to overturn the results of that election, launching an illegal coup against the President. It is designed to either remove him from office or to force him to consent to their political and national security policies.

For any honest observer, President Trump should receive the Nobel Peace Prize that Obama never deserved, for working with Russia and North Korea on war avoidance. It has been Trump’s rejection of geopolitical confrontation, together with his unwillingness to worship economic globalization, that has made him a marked man in the eyes of the Wall Street and the City of London financial warlords and their intelligence community retainers.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s fraud of an investigation, which is in fact a coup against the duly elected President, is increasingly being exposed as one of the greatest scandals in U.S. history. In fact, what is now coming out is that it was Britain who interfered in our elections, not Russia.

However, the facts don’t seem to matter much to the Democratic Party these days. It has almost exclusively become a party not of policies or governing, but of resistance, of an overriding commitment to the destruction of the Presidency of Donald Trump at any cost. This plays out at the expense of due process, at the expense of the sanity of the members of the Democratic Party, and unfortunately, if the Democrats succeed in winning back the House of Representatives in the November midterm elections, it will be at the expense of world peace. If impeachment proceedings are launched against President Trump, whether it ultimately results in his removal or not, Trump will not be able to tip the balance in the direction of major powers cooperation for the common aims of mankind. Consider the fact that against all odds, and despite the mainstream media branding of Vladimir Putin as the devil incarnate, Trump carried through on his promise to work to improve the U.S.-Russia relationship.

If Trump does not have the freedom to operate fully as the lawfully elected President of the United States, the same neocons and neoliberals who ran foreign policy from September 11th, 2001 until the day Obama left office, will be back in the nuclear cockpit. Our chance to regain economic sovereignty will be lost.

It is extremely important that the November 6th election is not treated as a gladiator sport between red and blue opponents. The significance of this election is national and international. Will Donald Trump be able to move forward with his intent to fulfill the aspiration of the majority of Americans to regain control of the political system after 16 years of unfettered globalization, Wall Street bailouts and unquestioned, undeclared, regime change wars? If not, what are the implications of that?

In Michigan, we have some very close but clear-cut races in the 8th and 11th districts.

In the 8th district, incumbent and low-key Trump supporter Mike Bishop is being challenged by Elissa Slotkin, who spent 15 years working in the Department of Defense, the National Security Council, and as Special Assistant the Director of National Intelligence for President George W. Bush. Slotkin presents herself to voters as the kind of Democrat who can reach across the aisle to get things done, not as a wild and crazy “resist” Democrat. But there is something worse than an unthinking “resist” Democrat. It is someone who will continue to embrace the failed policies of Bush, Cheney and Obama. Not only has Slotkin been endorsed by Hillary and Obama, she has received endorsements from neoliberal and neoconservative warhawks, such as Stephen Hadley, under whom she worked. Hadley, Vice President Cheney and Cheney aide Scooter Libby promoted the “intelligence” about Saddam Hussein’s ties to 9/11 and possession of weapons of mass destruction which were later shown to be lies. That led to the wars which President Trump called the biggest mistake the nation has ever made.

In the 11th district, Republican Lena Epstein, one of the architects of Trump’s victory in the State of Michigan is running against Democrat Haley Stevens, who formerly served as the Chief of Staff for Obama’s Auto Task Force. The fake news called it a success, necessary to save millions of jobs. But, the truth is that the auto bailout’s priority was to protect the Big 3’s Wall Street creditors while scrapping thousands of auto dealerships and plants and cutting incoming replacement workers’ wages in half. Haley Stevens’ boss and Obama’s buddy and appointed “Car Czar,” Steve Rattner had business dealings with Cerberus Capital, one of the creditors which was saved at the expense of the workers and the industry. Rattner had previously gained prominence at Lazard Freres, whose CEO Felix Rohatyn was the point man in the brutal 2005 Delphi bankruptcy which wiped out that company’s vital North American machine tool capacity.

These two Democratic candidates represent the failed national security and economic policies that the American voters voted to clean out on November 6, 2016. The more significant problem is that regardless of what policies they campaign on, they will be whipped into supporting impeachment if Democrats take control of the House of Representatives next year and they will not be bothered by providing evidence of Trump having committed an actual crime.

So think carefully as you go to the polls on November 6th. Don’t be bamboozled by the illusion that you are choosing between two candidates each with distinct policy positions and resumes. The choice is between a new, optimistic mode of politics and an old one that will tear us all down with it.

Sincerely,
William F. Roberts
