Senate Vote to Cut Spending Today
Today, at approximately 5:30, the Senate will vote on an amendment to H.R. 3055–the Commerce-Justice-Science, Agriculture-FDA, Military Construction, Veterans’ Affairs, and Transportation and Housing and Urban Development ”minibus” appropriations bill offered by Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.
Senator Paul’s amendment reduces the appropriations contained in the bill by 2%. This is a modest reduction, but if Congress can’t even cut programs by 2% than what hope is there of ever actually getting rid of unconstitutional programs, balancing the budget, and restoring limited constitutional government in any area.
Last week’s report from the Treasury showing that the federal government deficit now stands at $984 billion dollars should give every senator the incentive to Stand with Rand and begin making modest cuts in spending before the rise in federal deficits leads to an economic crisis.
Campaign for Liberty members should call their Senators and ask them to vote for the Paul amendment to H.R. 3055.
