Australians in Victoria with coronavirus or have close contact to get $1500 payment as planned easing of lockdown is delayed

Victorians that contract COVID-19 or have a close contact with the virus will receive a payment of $1500.

On Saturday, Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews announced restrictions would not be eased as planned after 25 new cases were recorded and almost all of them were from community transmission.

The rise has been blamed on family gatherings, with Andrews saying families had decided to ignore directions to isolate when they develop symptoms.

“Don’t visit friends and family. Don’t go on holiday. Don’t go to work. Stay home,” Andrews said in a statement.

Andrews said to encourage the directions a one-off payment of $1500 would be given to those who have the virus or are a close contact or someone with it and are unable to rely on sick leave.
