A frequent point I have made in past columns has been about the educational travesty happening on many college campuses. Some people have labeled my observations and concerns as trivial, unimportant and cherry-picking. While the spring semester awaits us, let’s ask ourselves whether we’d like to see repeats of last year’s antics. An excellent source for college news is Campus Reform, a conservative website operated by the Leadership Institute (https://www.campusreform.org). Its reporters are college students. Here is a tiny sample of last year’s bizarre stories. Donna Riley, a professor at Purdue University’s School of Engineering Education, published an article in … Continue reading

A federal judge in Las Vegas on Monday dismissed the case against rancher Cliven Bundy, his two sons, and a fourth man who took part in the 2014 confrontation with the government. U.S. District Judge Gloria Navarro closed out the latest chapter in the so-called “Battle of Bunkerville” by dismissing the charges with prejudice against Cliven, Ammon and Ryan Bundy, as well as Ryan Payne. Navorro, who declared a mistrial in the case last month, said federal prosecutors engaged in a “deliberate attempt to mislead and distort the truth” through neglecting to turn over evidence that could have helped the defendants … Continue reading

Ayn Rand, for all her quirks, had some solid things to say. One of these was that civilization exists – or declines – in proportion to privacy. The less privacy you’ve got, the more uncivilized the society in which you live. Which is why this business of Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) technology is so extremely uncivilized. It is meant to make sure you are never alone on the road – even if you are the only car on the road. The concept emulates the bee hive. Each bee is an integral part of a collective and no action taken by any individual bee … Continue reading

Seventy per cent of the population of Saudi Arabia is under thirty years old. This means that the majority of Saudi young people have never seen a movie at a theater. You see, there are no movie theaters in Saudi Arabia. They have been banned for over 35 years because of pressure from conservative Muslim clerics. As recently as last year, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdul Aziz Al al-Sheikh reportedly warned of the “depravity” of cinemas, saying they would corrupt morals if allowed. But beginning this year, as part of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s Vision 2030 social and economic reform … Continue reading

Way back in the tyranny of Bush the Minor, I read a funny article in one of the news magazines, while waiting for a haircut. This was in the early days of his administration when the accounting scandals hit and the tech bubble burst tanked the economy. The liberal media was sure it was all the result of the gods being angry over Bush getting elected over Gore, so they filled their pages with horror stories about the economy. The story was a tale of woe about Ivy League grads unable to find work. The one example I always remember … Continue reading

The New York Times, Washington Post, CNN, and NPR will never tell you, but the criminal is Hillary, not Trump. It has come to light that the FBI edited down FBI Director Comey’s investigation of Hillary in order to make it look like nothing was amiss. Comey’s conclusion that Hillary was “grossly negligent,” a conclusion justifying felony indictment for mishandling of classified information, was replaced with “extremely careless.” You can read about the rewire here. The Chairman of the US Senate Homeland and Government Affairs Committee, Ron Johnson (R, Wis) has asked the current FBI director, Chris Wray, if the … Continue reading

In the last 48 hours, the southwestern State in the US has been rocked by eight tremors, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS). All but three of the tremors have come along the San Andreas fault – a deadly line which runs through California and is one of the most seismically active regions in the world. The strongest of the quakes came in Berkeley, near the east coast of California, which measured 4.4 on the Richter scale. Californian residents took to social media to share their experiences of the earthquakes, with many fearing that the worst is yet to … Continue reading

Informing Iran, “The U.S. is watching what you do,” Amb. Nikki Haley called an emergency meeting Friday of the Security Council regarding the riots in Iran. The session left her and us looking ridiculous. France’s ambassador tutored Haley that how nations deal with internal disorders is not the council’s concern. Russia’s ambassador suggested the United Nations should have looked into our Occupy Wall Street clashes and how the Missouri cops handled Ferguson. Fifty years ago, 100 U.S. cities erupted in flames after Martin Luther King’s assassination. Federal troops were called in. In 1992, Los Angeles suffered the worst U.S. riot … Continue reading
