‘When you tell someone that their police department has bayonets, their immediate reaction is denial or ridicule. “Why would cops need bayonets?” they ask. Exactly, why would cops need bayonets? Why do they need grenade launchers, .50 caliber rifles, Apache attack helicopters, camouflage uniforms, or tracked tank-like vehicles for that matter? While there are multiple […]

Turkey, once a pillar of Mideast stability, looks increasingly like a slow-motion truck crash.   What makes this crisis so tragic is that not very long ago Turkey was entering a new age of social harmony and economic development. Today, both are up in smoke as this week’s bloody bombing in Ankara that killed 99 people showed.  America’s ham-handed policies in the Mideast have set the entire region ablaze from Syria to South Sudan and Libya.  Turkey sits right on top of the huge mess, licked by the flames of nationalist and political conflagrations and now beset by 2 million Syrian … Continue reading

Not all that long ago, people targeted 100,000 miles as their goal to drive their car because that is about the mileage you could expect before having a major failure.  However, cars have gotten much better, technology has improved, and people are doing more maintenance these days.  This is the reason the average age of cars on the road in the United States has reached an all-time high.  Simply put, cars are just better these days.  Can you get 200,000 miles out of your car with no major issues?  Some will, some won’t, but your behavior and maintenance practices can … Continue reading

The idiom “divide and conquer” is said to have originated with the Latin maxim “divide et impera” meaning divide and rule. Julius Caesar used it in reference to defeating the Gauls during the Gaelic War. While its first usage in the English language began circa 1600, through the centuries it’s carried a commonly understood meaning. The retention of power by utilizing a deliberate strategy of causing those in subordinate positions to engage in conflicts with each other that weaken and keep them from any unified effort to remove the status quo force from power. This policy of maintaining control over … Continue reading

Two weeks ago Anthony Silva, the mayor of Stockton, California was forced to turn over all of his electronics and their associated passwords when re-entering the country from an official visit to China. The Department of Homeland Security agents were unable to produce a warrant or any other court documents to justify their seizure, yet they prohibited him from entering the country and being on his way until he complied with their demands. After giving in to the authorities Mr. Silva had the following to say, “I think the American people should be extremely concerned about their personal rights and … Continue reading

Barack Obama sought as his legacy to bring an end to the two longest wars in U.S. history. On Oct. 15, he, again, admitted failure. The 9,800 U.S. troops in Afghanistan will remain another year. And, on Inauguration Day 2017, 5,500 U.S. troops will still be there. Why cannot we leave? Because, if we do, we risk the re-seizure of power by the Taliban we drove out 14 years ago, and a wipeout of all we have accomplished in America’s longest war. When can we come home? Never, if we hope to secure that for which we have already paid … Continue reading

Forgiving skyrocketing student debt won’t solve the real problem, which is the soaring costs imposed by a cartel that is failing to prepare students for the economy of tomorrow. Everyone understands soaring student debt is a problem: burdened with $1.3 trillion in student loans, young people are unable to start businesses, buy homes and start families. The high cost of housing and meeting regulations to launch businesses add additional burdens, but the weight of $1.3 trillion in debt right out of the starting gate is crushing. The “solution” being pursued by the federal government is obvious: take over most of … Continue reading

Much of the political thinking about violence in the United States comes from unfavorable comparisons between the United States and a series of cherry-picked countries with lower murder rates and with fewer guns per capita. We’ve all seen it many times. The United States, with a murder rate of approximately 5 per 100,000 is compared to a variety of Western and Central European countries (also sometimes Japan) with murder rates often below 1 per 100,000. This is, in turn, supposed to fill Americans with a sense of shame and illustrate that the United States should be regarded as some sort … Continue reading

Chlorophyll is what gives plants their green pigment. It is also responsible for channeling the sun’s rays into chemical energy for photosynthesis in all plants. Photosynthesis is the transformation of carbon dioxide and water into useful carbohydrates and oxygen. In human beings, chlorophyll is one of the few substances that pulls more oxygen into the cells, while simultaneously protecting all of the cells from oxidative (free radical) damage. During the 1950’s, it was used in certain U.S. toothpastes, due to it being only toxic to harmful bacteria and yeasts, such as candida. It was a remarkable breath freshener that also … Continue reading
