Court waits to see if Lord Janner will appear at child abuse hearing

‘Criminal proceedings start on Friday against former Labour peer Lord Janner – who has dementia – over allegations of historical child sexual abuse.

The hearing at Westminster magistrates court comes after an independent review overturned a ruling by the country’s top prosecutor that Janner should not be charged because he has Alzheimer’s disease.

It is not known whether Janner will appear in person at court, which will influence how the proceedings unfold.’
