‘Emmanuel Macron has laid out his plans for a much more integrated European Union after Britain leaves the bloc.
The French President proposed creating a common budget funded by extra taxes, a shared defense force and an asylum office responsible for distributing refugees.
He said the plans will ‘give us the ability to act in a world faced with big challenges’ but critics will view them as the first step to creating a European super-state.
Mr Macron, 39, could not resist taking a few veiled swipes at Brexit during his speech at the prestigious Sorbonne university, but added that he could not see a future where Britain played no part in Europe.
The head of state said he wanted Britain to ‘reestablish’ its role within a reformed ‘sovereign Europe’.’
